What?NAPLAN* is the National Assessment Program in Literacy And Numeracy. It consists of tests in Literacy and Numeracy for years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These tests take place nationally each year in May and replace the following tests: NSW - Basic Skills Test (Years 3 and 5) and ELLA & SNAP Tests (Year 7) VIC - AIMS Testing (Years 3, 5 and 7) SA - Integrated Assessment Program (Years 3, 5 and 7) WA - WALNA (Years 3, 5 and 7) QLD - Testing Program (Years 3, 5 and 7) ACT - The ACT Assessment Program (Years 3, 5, 7 and 9) TAS - Literacy and Numeracy Tests (Years 3, 5 and 7). Purpose?The results from these national literacy and numeracy tests will provide an important measure of how Australian schools and students are performing in the areas of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The results from the assessment program will be used for individual student reporting to parents, school reporting to their communities, and aggregate reporting by States and Territories against national standards.
NAPLAN Literacy includes: • Reading • Writing • Language Conventions (which comprises spelling, grammar and punctuation)
NAPLAN Numeracy includes: • Number • Algebra, function and pattern • Space • Measurement, chance and data.
