Targeting English is the comprehensive, integrated scheme for exploring the many ways in which we use English.
The new, full-colour English series for Australian primary schools that integrates learning across all areas of English:
- Reading and comprehension - Text types - Grammar - Speaking and listening - Writing
The Targeting English series of Student Books, Teaching Guides and Big Books provides comprehensive coverage of the primary English curriculum.
Many teachers ask the question:
How do I fully integrate the way many aspects of the English syllabus into a comprehensive study of English and how it works?
Today, more than ever before, students need to be able to read, write and understand a wide variety of texts. To do this students have to:
- develop a range of comprehension strategies - improve their knowledge of grammar and punctuation - practise their speaking and listening skills - read and write a wide range of fiction and nonfiction text types
We developed Targeting English to meet this challenge!
The 12 integrated units in each Targeting English student book provide a clear model for teaching and learning that builds strong skills in:
1. Reading: Read and explore a variety of texts on a topic using full-colour, real-life extracts.
2. Comprehension: Use a variety of comprehension strategies to deepen student understanding of texts.
3. Speaking and Listening: Reinforce clear speaking and attentive listening skills with integrated partner activities. The CD-ROM in the Teaching Guide has audio samples for whole-class activities.
4. Visual Literacy: Actively builds visual literacy skills by focusing on pictures, diagrams and student drawings.
5. Text types: Understand that people read and write texts for different purposes and for different audiences.
6. Writing: Improve writing skills with models, scaffolds and regular practice.
